May 2002"...I can see the light at the end of the tunnel"
by Gill Cheshire ...
People are beginning to ask me if I'm nervous and stressed. Should I be nervous? Why am I not stressed? Another guy in the office is getting married the same day and he is equally asking the same set of questions. He, like me, has a very laid back approach to the "Big Day". He believes it is down to the ceremony and venue being at the same place. Maybe he's right!
Anyhow, we are now counting down the weeks until the 25th of May and as I said in my last journal most things have been done. It's really only the incidental things that need doing. I ordered 50 cake boxes, which need decorating for people who were not invited to the wedding, like work colleagues and distant friends.
Andy has just come back from a day trip to Belgium and returned with 20lb of fresh Belgian chocolates and I have been carefully counting out chocolates into bags. Tied each bag with raffia and gold ribbon and strung a fancy label on them that reads "thank you for coming to our wedding".
The biggest nightmare will be the table plan. We shall start working this up shortly.
We have a friend hard at work making beautiful Origami black swans, which will hold each place card at the table. They are stunning but very time consuming to make - roughly 6 hours! With 6 A4 sheets of paper and 183 individual parts per swan, she has to make 41 of them! Why black swans? Leeds Castle is known for its black swans, so we thought it would be a nice touch to mark each place setting with one.
I have just had my final dress fitting before the big day and I fully dressed the part to make sure that everything fitted perfectly. The skirt has finally been made up and was waiting for my final try on before being finished off. Although I felt I needed to lose a bit more weight, the seam mistress assured me that it was perfect. I am fortunate that I have a reasonable bust so that the bodice fitted a treat. Andy, who of course had to come with me, was really delighted at the look and I have to say I was pleased with it all as well.
I am not sure about the shoes I have bought though. They seem very uncomfortable and I might have to buy a larger pair than I have currently. Andy thinks I should try and wear them in a bit more. I've even tried putting them in the microwave, but the metal at the bottom of the shoe sparked. Why the microwave? Somewhere, I read that if you heat your shoes up they will mould better to the foot. I've tried the oven and resorted to wearing them around the house. Cream wedding boots really look fetching with blue jeans but even better with a black skirt and black hosiery. I look like something out of the 1980's!
We have, again, visited the photographer for a final briefing. I wanted to check on his arrival time and brief him on a couple of pictures I definitely want taken. He is an excellent photographer and I have every faith that he will capture "our day" perfectly.
Yes, I am still busy making wedding cake flowers. My only opportunity to do these is during the weekend as I have too many commitments on during the evening to even think about them. They are looking good and I will shortly have to bind them altogether.
I am really astonished how easy this wedding has been to plan and I can only recommend planning and organising your day early. My only thing is to "walk and talk" myself through the day in case I have missed anything. Apart from working on my wedding speech, we are most definitely on the final run and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
