Box of Love
Submitted by: Kelly N. of Fargo, North Dakota, USA
Here is a CHEAP and pretty easy wedding favor idea. By each
place setting, we put a "box of love" and attached a special poem. But the unique
part was how we made our boxes. All the boxes we wanted to buy were too expensive
for our large guest list, so we made them out of old greeting cards. They
are very beautiful and every person's box is unique. Plus they are free!
The box is then tied with ribbon and a poem attached that read:
Here is a little box of love
Filled to the brim, that's true,
When you see it you will know
How much we think of you!
You do not need to open it
So leave the ribbon tied
Just hold it in your hands and know
It's filled with love inside.
With love on our wedding day, your names here
If you would like a copy of the directions on how to make the greeting
card boxes I'll send them to you for $2. E-mail me at

Floral Swags
Submitted by: Kristin of Rome, New York, USA
I always wanted floral arrangements on the back of every chair
at the reception, but that would have been expensive at our 300 guest wedding.
So, to kill two birds with one stone, we are making dried floral swags to
hang on the backs of every other chair. The women will take them home.
Also, we have an Irish theme, so the swags will be horse shoe shaped and
will have a tag with our names and wedding date explaining that in the Irish
tradition, horse shoe bouquets were thought to bring good luck to the bride
and groom.

Chocolate-Filled Champagne Glasses
Submitted by: Shannon of Emlenton, Pennsylvania, USA
We are using champagne glasses as wedding favors. Inside them
are foil-wrapped chocolates all wrapped in another foil bag and tied with a
ribbon. Although not a completely creative idea it allows all of the
guests to join in the toast and allows us to kill two birds with one
stone!

Miniature Topiary
Submitted by: Anita of Los Angeles, California, USA
Recently, my mom and I made topiaries for the guests at my brother's
dinner reception. It took forever, tad expensive but well worth the
effort.
What you need are miniature terra cotta pots, dry flowers (we use varieties
and mini dry rose buds),
green moss, ribbon, some round sticks, gold paints and creame paints.
The pots were first painted in cream then gold was spray painted on. A
small square of foam block
was stuck inside the pot and the top of the block was glued with green moss. The dry flowers
were glued on to 1 1/2 inch
foam balls. A ribbon was glue on at the base of the stick. On the pot, we
wrote the bride's and groom's name and on the top rim
of the pot, we wrote the wedding date.
Everyone can do it but is kind of time consuming because of the glueing. If you
don't want to spend too much,
dont go for the dry mini rose buds. Most of the material you can get at
Michael's or your local craft store. The dry flowers, specially
the rose buds, were hard to find so we had to run to the floral market and get
them.
They are cute all lined up like the miniature trees from Barbie's world.

Picture Frame
Submitted by: T. A. of Sydney, Australia
At our wedding, we used a small picture frame with each guest's
name and the meaning of their name as our wedding favor. This doubled as a place card and
wedding favour. At your local library, you will find books on meanings of
names or make one up. Or another idea write a little message about the guest.
For example, how much they make you laugh or how they love animals.

Christmas Ornaments
Submitted by: Maria of West Hollywood, Los Angeles, USA
For my December wedding, we purchased inexpensive Christmas
balls, then decopauged their surfaces with black and white (xeroxed)
photos of my fiancé and I. Whenever possible, we also added Xeroxed
pictures of the particular guest for whom the ornament was intended.
Finally, we laminated the surface to guarantee future protection and added
a beautiful gossamer ribbon.

Chocolate and Candles
Submitted by: Sonia of Haliburton, Canada
With my wedding just under two months I've had a hard time
deciding what I wanted to do for favours for my guests. With
a tight budget, my ideas were limited. I finally came up with the
idea of handmade chocolates tied to tulle-wrapped votive candles.
Attached to all this will be our names, wedding date and a small
poem. Also the chocolates are made using molds that I have begun to make
that say "Thank You." I purchased the molds at a bulk food store. Each favour
will cost under $1.00.

Hershey® and Champagne Glasses
Submitted by: Shelley of St. Louis, Missouri, USA
I recently attended a friend's wedding reception that had one of the
cutest favors I've seen yet. She used miniature plastic champagne glasses
that you find at party supply stores. She filled them with a few Hershey®
Kisses and wrapped the filled glasses with tulle. She then tied the tulle
at the top of the glass with a silver ribbon and a small tag with their
names and wedding date printed on them. I've never seen this favor
before. It seemed original, easy to make and very pretty.

Fish-shaped Tealight Candles
Submitted by: Shelley of St. Louis, Missouri, USA
Our reception will be beachfront, so I've wrapped fish-shaped
tealight candles that I found on sale at a craft store in white netting
(to resemble fish net) and tied each with a nautical color striped ribbon.

Camelot Money Pouches
Submitted by: Denise of Phoenix, Arizona, USA
My fiancé and I have been putting together a Camelot-themed wedding.
The location of our reception has the story of Camelot painstakingly
painted over every inch of the ceiling and marble winding staircases with
knights in shining armour adorning the entryway. So, the favor had to be
equally Camelot oriented. We have made silk chinze "money" pouches with
drawstrings in our wedding colors and filled them with chocolate liquor
bottles and chocolate gold coins.

Tea Bags
Submitted by: Allison of East Palestine, Ohio, USA
Our favor is unique and inexpensive.
We are using tea bags filled with a custom blend of our choice (ordered
through a wholesale catalog company). Each tea bag will have a custom
label on it with the name of our "love brew." Then, each guest will get 3
tea bags presented in a handmade paper envelope (matching our colors sage
and midnight blue) stamped with a saying of love. Each favor will cost
about 40 cents.

Western-themed Favors
Submitted by: Lynn D. of Midlothian, Texas, USA
My friend is having a western theme wedding and there is not
much out there on this (not that I have found anyway). For her favors we
are getting the little cowboy hats you put on football mums. We are going
to put tulle in them and put the birdseed inside the tulle. Tie it all up
with a ribbon matching her wedding colors and attach a card reading something like "As
______ and ______ ride off into the sunset, they wish to extend their
thanks and love to you for being a part of their special day." Then display
the date and names of wedding.

Sugar Cookies Wrapped in Tulle
Submitted by: Melissa of Edmonton, Canada
My fiancé and I are having a butterfly & daisy theme wedding in
2001. For the gifts/favors for the guests we are going to make sugar
cookies using a butterfly cookie cutter. Then, we are going to ice them in our wedding
colors and use the icing to write our names and wedding date. We will
then take two cookies and wrap them in tulle and tie them with a ribbon. I
haven't priced it out yet, but it will be very cost effective because you
already in your kitchen much of the baking stuff. You can also do
them a few days before the wedding and freeze them.

Candles
Submitted by: Julie of Brooklyn, New York, USA
For my engagement party favor, I found these adorable variety
Kim Anderson candles. Then, I logged on to www.lavacandles.com and was
able to purchase them online through a friend's business. I ordered
personalized ribbon and tiny silk roses from a local store and made each
of these candles even prettier.

Suncatchers
Submitted by: Tameray of Williston, Florida, USA
We are getting married in July 2001 and have decided to incorporate an
"It Was Written in The Stars" theme to thank our guests for joining us on
our special day. I contacted our local glass company and they cut out 4"
glass squares (275) for me. We used glass works paint and glass leading
to create suncatchers. I attached a quote with our names and wedding date
to each one.
"If I could hold a star for each time you made me smile,
I would have the evening sky in the palm of my hand."
