Masquerade
Submitted by: Jessica of New York, New York
We're having a masquerade ball theme for our wedding because we met in the
theater. While we're going to encourage everyone to come with a mask, we're
also going to provide each guest with a mask as a wedding favor which will decorate the each
table. I found many Mardi Gras-themed websites that have a huge selection of
sequinned and feathered masks that are quite elaborate, in every conceivable
color, in prices ranging from $3.95 to $30. We'll pick an assortment in the $5
range. Hopefully, our guests will get to enjoy their masks at the wedding and
also take them home as a keepsake and decoration.

Decorative Pine Cones
Submitted by: Kelly L. of Lithonia, Georgia
My wedding isn't until September 2000. It will be
a few months before Christmas. I am spray painting
pine cones and attaching ribbons and wrapping
them with color-coordinated netting or cellophane.
Guests can use them as Christmas ornaments or just keep as a memento.

Honeycomb Beeswax Candles
Submitted by: S.S. of Austin, Texas
For our May wedding, I took an idea that was originally a part of a
centerpiece and transformed it into a wedding favor. The centerpiece consisted of
flowers and hand-rolled honeycomb beeswax candles. They are
4" tall and about 1" wide and wrapped in tulle and tied with ribbon. Attached
to the ribbon is a piece of paper embossed with a stamp of the monogram, the bride
and groom's name, and the wedding date. The stamp was custom made and only cost about $10.
Altogether, each wedding favor cost only $0.40 cents. There is a lot of work that goes
into them though, which makes them even more special.

Bottles of Wine
Submitted by: Target of Farmingdale, New York
We will be purchasing bottles of Mateus wine. Each bottle costs approximately $1.75 per
bottle and each bottle is useful. The guests can either drink it, cook with it or give it
away if they choose.

Disney-theme Favors
Submitted by: Julie of Boston, Massachusetts
For the female guest, we purchased small clear, plastic slippers from
the craft store. We made small pillows stuffed with cotton
scented with essential oils. We then glued a slipper to the pillow and
added a Hersheys Hug & Kiss. The ladies had a cute scented
decoration for their dresser or desk. For the male guest, we made clock
towers out of poster board (spray painted with granite paint). We
made clock face stickers on the computer.

Homemade Beeswax Candles
Submitted by: Heather of Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Our wedding is on May 13, 2000 and we have chosen to give away two candles as our
"thank you" to the friends and family we will be having as our treasured
guests. After searching for what seems like forever in every store
imaginable (candle, craft, wholesale, retail, gift), we weren't able to
find exactly what we were looking for. We decided to make our own
beeswax candles in our theme color (lavender) and bind them with ribbons
in both our wedding colors (lavender and silver). We then attached a
small lavender rose (fabric) in the middle of the bow. The candles have a
pleasant scent and the time and effort spent into making the candles
resulted in greater bonding for the two of us! The beeswax sheets can be
purchased at any major crafts store. Congrats to all married-couples-to-be!

Ukranian Eggs
Submitted by: Christine of Morinville, AB
As a bridal consultant, I am always on the lookout for new and
interesting ideas for wedding favours. Since my mom and I are avid craft
fanatics and are Ukranian, the thought of Ukranian Eggs was intriguing.
Just use a simple design and on the border, around the side, write the couple's
name and wedding date. A beautiful and fragile, yet inexpensive gift to
be cherished always.

Candles in Clay Pots
Submitted by: Elisha of Canton
For our wedding in May, my friend thought of a favor
that would cost about $0.60 a piece. First, we bought little clay pots and painted
them lavender which is one of the wedding colors (lavender and silver). Second, we
took white candles and hot glued lavender ribbon around them. Next, we hot
glued the candle into the middle of the clay pot. Lastly, we bought little
cards and, with silver ribbon, tied the card to the bottom of the candle.
Each card contained the wedding date, our names and a little poem. They turned out
to be wonderful and all the bridesmaids had lots of fun making them. It's a nice
ice breaker for the wedding party to get to know each other. All the
products were bought at a craft store in bulk.

Sugar Almonds
Submitted by: Stacia of Evansville, Indiana
I am an Italian, so of course my family is expecting to see
sugared almonds wrapped in a piece of tulle and tied with a personalized
ribbon. Well, they're going to get that, but it is going to be on a
small, handled silver-plated tray as well. I purchased the trays for
about 70 cents a piece from "Forever and Always" (a catalog of wedding
paraphernalia). They may be traditional, but they're also spectacular!

Bookmarks
Submitted by: Pat of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
My main favor will be silverplated frames that are
doubling as placecard holders. I will only have one for each couple.
Because I wanted to do something individually, and also needed a
way to let the wait staff differentiate between who ordered beef vs. fish
vs. vegetarian, I am making bookmarks that will be at each place. To make
the bookmarks I used PageMaker on my computer (you could do the same with
PowerPoint, Quark, etc). I started by setting up 8 1/2 x 11 pages. On
one side (you'll end up printing double-sided or duplex), I created
backgrounds using pretty pictures that look kind of like venetian paper
(swirly colors) in my wedding colors purple and pale green. On my
computer, I "blew up" these pictures so that each was the size of the 8
1/2 by 11 page. The other side of each page (3 in all, one for each menu
choice) was just solid color (purple, green, and silver). I then used
guides to divide each page into sections that are 6" tall by 2.5" wide.
On the solid color side of each mark, I had the guests name at the top.
At the bottom, I had our names (married form) and the date of our wedding.
Finally, at the very bottom, I had quotes about love (just a few words,
nothing lengthy). After printing double sided, I laminated the whole
sheet on both sides, then cut out the bookmarks. I ended up punching a
hole at the top above the guest's name and added a purple tassel (order
these from the web, they are about 1/100th the cost of tassels at craft
stores!). Not only will my friends have a lasting memento that they may
actually use, but this beats a big red dot on a place card to indicate who
is eating what! You could also add the table # to this and have them
serve the dual person of placecards and menu markers.

Wedding Bells
Submitted by: Michelle of Quesnel, British Columbia, Canada
For my June 2001 wedding, I am planning on giving out tiny bells
placed on a free standing card with a printed verse. These bells will be
used at the reception to witness the Bride and Groom share a kiss.
This just replaces the old "clinking of the glass" tradition.
"Let the bells ring for they're husband and wife, ring out for joy for
their new life, ring for laughter or ring for a kiss and ring that this
couple will always find bliss."

Chop sticks
Submitted by: Christine K. of Morinville
I found a neat idea for a chinese wedding. How about
personalized chop sticks, with the name of the couple and wedding date in the color of
their wedding? Or a picture fan made from the couple's favorite picture of
themselves, some toothpicks and some hot glue (maybe even a few sparkles
of the wedding colors)! Very easy and cheap!!!

White Wine Openers
Submitted by: Jenna A. of Kentwood, Michigan
I am marrying an Italian, so we'll have the sugar coated
almonds. But I really wanted something that the guests could use after
our day. So, I found a promotional gift website and found white wine
openers for $1.57 each. I got them personalized with an Italian drinking
toast, our names and wedding date. The Italians at the wedding will
definitely find it a useful gift.

Charity Donation
Submitted by: Heather of Houston, Texas, USA
Since my fiancé and I are both firefighters, we decided in lieu
of favors we will make a donation to The Last Alarm Club, a local charity
that provides for the families of fallen firefighters. The donation will
be made in the memory of two firefighters that recently lost their lives
in the line of duty here in Houston. I'm printing cards to be placed at
each place-setting to let our guests know that we have done this. I
truly believe that this is a better use of money than traditional favors.

Texas Bluebonnet Jelly
Submitted by: Stacey of Austin, Texas, USA
My fiancé and I moved to Texas from the east coast about nine
months
before our wedding. We racked our brains for months trying to come up
with unique wedding favors. The minute I saw the miniature jars of Texas
Bluebonnet
Jelly, I knew they were the answer to our dilemma. They are being labeled
with our names, our wedding date, and a special "Thank You" to our guests
for sharing our day with us.
