Candles
Submitted by: Claudia of Bermuda
I am getting married June 3, 2000. In Bermuda, there is very little resource for wedding supplies. I have attended plenty of weddings and just about everyone has the same wedding favors (bubbles, chocolates, etc.). But I have decided to have 12" white candles in a candle holder with a label attached bearing our name and wedding date. For my country, it would be different but original.

Garden Fans
Submitted by: Bliss!(tm) Reader in Tampa, Florida
Here's one that brings out the southern bell in any true lady - garden fans. Our wedding will be held on September 1999 (very hot here in Florida) at a beautiful seaside garden on the property of a historic southern beach resort. We have purchased paper and wood garden fans to hand to each female guest as they are being seated for the wedding ceremony. The fans will help keep the ladies cool and their make up in place during the ceremony. The fans will be decorated with gold and ivory ribbons on the handles and have a golden floral design on the face. It is a thoughtful and practical wedding favor.

Seeded Bells
Submitted by: Yvonne Lee of Toronto, Ontario
I managed to purchase a large quantity of small gold bells on sale. The way I am going to decorate the bells is to attach a seed card (which I purchase from Bloomin' Flower Cards company -- www.bloomin.com) which is a mix of perennial flower seeds contained in the paper to each bell. Not only is the favor inexpensive to put together, but it is also environmentally friendly!

Fortune Cookies
Submitted by: Heather of Toronto, Ontario
One unique idea for a token for the guests is to bake and offer fortune cookies to the guests. Printed on the fortune cookie paper, one could write a poem, a sentimental line, or the couple's name and wedding date. The internet gives a lot of recipes for fortune cookies that can be made at home. It is easy, different and a fun way to offer your guests something unique and special.

Champagne Glasses with Truffles
Submitted by: Diana Camden of Huntington Beach
My best friend is getting married this September, while discussing favors, I came up with an ideal favor. We are taking clear champagne glasses ($.10 @ Alin party store) and I am making a variety of Truffles that will be wrapped in tulle, and tied with a bow and tag with a small poem. It's a beautifully, elegant and tasty favor for all.

Fancy Pens
Submitted by: Amy of Derry, New Hampshire
For our wedding, I wanted to give favors that would be used after our wedding day. We are having fancy pens printed with our names, date of the wedding, and a small wedding graphic. Our pens are going to be navy blue with white printing to match our wedding colors. There are lots of pen and ink color choices available in different price ranges. I am ordering mine through a trophy store. Screen printers sell them, too.

Black Labrador Beanie Babies
Submitted by: Jennifer of Grayslake, Illinois
My fiancé, Gary, and I met while walking our dogs at the local forest preserve. Our May 2000 wedding theme will be "dog-related." Each wedding guest will receive a black Labrador beanie baby tied with a ribbon indicating our names and wedding date. Each bridesmaid will receive a cuddle dog (available from www.k9design.com) with their particular breed of dog and a bandana with their name and our wedding date.

Custom Music CD
Submitted by: Mrs. K. of Pasadena, California
We had the coolest favors ever! My husband is both an avid record collector and a computer buff. So we got a CD recorder and made music CDs with all our favorite love songs which included songs like the Carpenters' "We've Only Just Begun" to Savage Garden's "Truly, Madly, Deeply." I'm a lawyer, so of course we had to include Jackson Browne's "Lawyers in Love." We even designed the "album cover" and the label for the CDs themselves, and composed "liner notes" explaining why we chose the songs and how we managed to create the CDs. Our guests just loved them and we did, too. We each have a copy in our car and listen to it on our way to work — haven't gotten tired of it yet!

Deck of Cards
Submitted by: Bob C. of Downingtown, Pennsylvania
We've decided to combine our wedding favors with the place cards by tying each place card (with the guest's name and table number written on each card) to a deck of cards. My wife and I love to play cards so we waited for a sale on card decks and bought 300 decks (less then $1 per deck). We had to go to about eight different stores to get all the cards we needed. Everyone plays cards at sometime or another. We got both types of cards (straight and pinochle). Every couple that came to our wedding received two decks of cards, one of each kind.

Post-It™ Notes
Submitted by: Jennifer of Bowie, Maryland
I think I have found the most practical wedding favor yet! POST-IT NOTES! Several online companies sell them. You can get them displaying a little saying with your names and wedding date. They are so neat!

Ray Of Love
Submitted by: Sandra of Buena Park, California
My niece gave us very short notice, one month, so I needed a quick, inexpensive idea for favors. I went to my local craft store and bought tiny plastic champagne glasses, tea light candles, ribbon to match her wedding colors and small flowers. Next I went to my local computer supply store and bought blank business cards. My sister wrote a short poem which I printed on the business cards. I glued the tea light candle into the champagne glass, punched a hole in the business card and tied that to the stem of the glass and added two small flowers to finish it off. On the business card we printed: (centered on the card)

The Light From This Tiny Candle's Ray
Finds Truth In The Love
We Vow Today

Thank you for sharing the moment we became
Mr. and Mrs. [name]
Date of Wedding

The favors turned out quite lovely, were quick to make and at a cost of about 50 cents each.

Perfect Match
Submitted by: Jen of Fayetteville
I'm getting married at the end of July and we've decided to give sparklers and matchbooks as our wedding favors. We're going to tie a few sparklers together and buy plain matchbooks. Using my computer, we're going to print stickers that read "Jen and Chad - A Perfect Match" and place them on the front of each matchbook. This will be inexpensive and unique.

Bottle Opener
Submitted by: Theresa of Staten Island, New York
I've found that lately, the more practical the item the better the chance the recipient has of using it after the wedding. A cousin of mine gave out a sterling silver bottle opener shaped like a dolphin. It was beautiful. Another friend gave out the new cork screw that has two prongs that slides into the top of the bottle, grips the sides of the cork and removes the cork without the mess. Although they don't say "romance", they were terrific favors and it has to be a great feeling knowing that the recipients will be getting good use out of them — even after the wedding.

Garden Pots
Submitted by: Jennifer M. or San Franciso, California
Ben and I are getting married on May 28, 2000. We are getting married in the morning, in the garden, and having our reception in a hall with large windows to let the sunlight in. Our wedding will have a "garden" theme. We decided that we did not want to waste money on centerpieces so we are using our centerpieces as favors as well. Each centerpiece consists of eight small pots, each planted with a different herb, and a larger pot with a miniature rose plant. The pots will be painted pale yellow, one of our wedding colors, and a small card will be stamped with our names. Also, to fill in any gaps that might occur, I purchased miniature watering cans (approx. 2 1/2 inches tall). I intend to write our names and a poem on a card and attach it to each watering can. The cans will be filled with either small mints or tulip bulbs — we have not yet decided.

Flower Pots
Submitted by: Gretchen D. of Catskill, New York
I took a tiny 2" diameter clay pot and placed a packet of seeds in it along with an iridescent cellophane pouch of dirt with a stamped message on a stick that read "everywhere you go love blooms."
