New Year's Party Favors
Submitted by: MT Weishaar of Lansing, Michigan
A dear friend, upset with her mother's plans for a stodgy reception,
intends on lighting the atmosphere with New Year's Eve type party favors. At each place
setting will be colorful hats to wear AND noise makers. Instead of clanking glasses, people will
use their new toys to have the happy couple kiss! All of these favors will be marked with
do-it-yourself copier labels with the couple's names and wedding date.
Other fun favors include ornaments (apples for a teacher's wedding, for example), individually
wrapped cookies, or chocolates molded into the couple's last initial!

Cross-Stitched Bookmarks
Submitted by: C. P. of Newark, Delaware
My mother is making cross-stitch bookmarks to give as favors to all
our guests. The design on the bookmarks is a heart with our names and the date below. She
frays the edges and adds an iron-on backing to finish them off.

Bubble Place Cards
Submitted by: C. W. of New York, New York
We've decided to combine our wedding favors with the place cards by
tying the place cards (with the guest's name and table number written
on each card) to bottles of wedding bubbles (purchased at a party supply
store). We'll personalize each wedding favor with a label bearing our
names and our wedding date and wrap each bottle in tulle. Fortunately, you
don't have to unwrap the bottles in order to use them. The cap is accessible
even when the bottle is wrapped!

Tulle Wrapped Shells
Submitted by: L. B. of Sunnyvale, California
My husband and I were married at Carmel by the Sea. For our favors, we
bought bags of little shells, tulle, and ribbons with our names and wedding
date on them. We placed a few shells in the center of a tulle circle, tied
it up with the ribbon, and decorated them with tiny pearl and satin flowers, bought at
the craft store.

Votive Candles in a Glass Bowl
Submitted by: A. K. of Dayton, Ohio
For my sister's wedding, which was of short notice, we used glass
bowls with scalloped edges (you can find them at craft stores), and
filled them with sand and added a votive candle. Or you could add water and
use floating candles in the wedding colors...they are relatively cheap yet
beautiful at the same time....which is what we needed!

Sand Dollars #2 and Magnets
Submitted by: Shelly of Placerville
We are having our wedding on the beach. I was thinking for a
wedding favor to get sand dollars and write in gold glitter puff paint our
names and wedding date. We are also having a BBQ reception and for
wedding favors I was thinking magnets with our names and wedding date on
them. You can buy business card magnets with an adhesive back at an
office supply store and print out business cards on the computer and stick
the business cards to the magnets. Everyone loves magnets!!

Candles in a Terra Cotta Pot
Submitted by: Malinda of Los Angeles, California
One of my bridesmaids
made candles for my bridal shower favors and
everyone loved them! They're not too hard to do
and they're very inexpensive. All you need (per
guest) is a small terra cotta pot, gold spray
paint, candle wicks, a block of wax, cellophane,
and ribbon (all materials are available at any
craft store). She just spray-painted the pots,
boiled the wax, inserted the wick into the pot,
and slowly poured the wax. When dry, she wrapped
them in cellophane and tied ribbons with my
wedding colors around the cellophane to secure
it. If you want, you can buy scented oil to pour
on the wax so that the candles are scented. Also,
since there is a hole at the bottom of the pot,
you can put a penny with the year of your wedding
over the hole so that the wax doesn't leak out.
When the candles are used up, your guests will
have a penny with your wedding year on it as a
memento. The favors are much cheaper than buying
candles in the store and they look very
professional. ! Plus everyone will love them; I
know my guests did!!

Blessings
Submitted by: L. G. of Spokane, Washington
We decided, since fortunes can be offensive to some religious
people, to try adding a 'blessing' to each of our favors. It feels personal to your guest, and puts
a smile on their face!

Lottery Tickets #2
Submitted by: M. B. of Suffern, New York
Recently, I attended a wedding in which the bride and the groom were
on a tight budget. They had only about $1 to spend per guest on favors. Their idea: The bride
and groom went to their local lotto provider and bought 1 ticket per guest. The numbers were
picked by computer for the day of the wedding. Each card was attached by ribbon to the place
cards. Another idea, buy a book of instant lotto tickets and use those. Your lotto provider should
be able to order them for you.

Candy Canes
Submitted by: J. R. of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
We are getting married on the first day of the Christmas Season,
November 29, 1997. We bought rolls of velvet ribbon, cut them into 24 inch strips, and punched
holes 1 inch apart along one side. Then we weaved candy canes through the holes. It is a very
inexpensive yet classy Christmas favor. (Especially when all supplies were bought at
after-Christmas sales!)

Different-shaped Glass Candleholders
Submitted by: P. D. of San Jose, California
For my wedding (held in December) I found little glass candle holders
at the local craft store in different shapes like flowers, hearts, circles, tiny vases, etc. I
bought all different kinds and the candles to go with them. We wrapped a ribbon with our names
around each candle. It is always nice to give something people can actually use again that
DOESN'T have your name on it. Another cute idea for a spring/summer wedding is to buy tiny bud
vases and put a flower in each one...that will cut down the expense of big floral centerpieces
because with a small vase at each table setting, the table will be colorful enough!

Seed Packets
Submitted by: Lesley of Marquette, Michigan
My fiancé and I both like wildflowers, especially those that grow in
our own yards. We are having lots of wildflowers at the church and at the reception -- the
"theme" of the wedding is an "English country garden." We purchased
seed packets (wildflowers, sunflowers, etc.), tied each with a colored ribbon, and attached a
note of thanks with our names and our wedding date. My mom bought a large terra cotta pot and
we will put the seed packets in that at the reception.

Note Pads
Submitted by: K. W. of Independence, Indiana
My husband and I wanted something unique and useful to give our guests. We had our local
printer make up pads of paper with our names, wedding date, and picture that went along
with our theme. Everyone loved them, even the kids!

Kisses and Hugs #2
Submitted by: K. C. of Cleveland, Ohio
I was married a week before Christmas in '93. I used netting to wrap 2 Hershey Kisses and 2
Hershey Hugs and attached a note to each bundle with the words "Just a
few hugs and kisses for you!"
