Cross-Stitch
Submitted by: Jacqui of Scotland
I am getting married soon and for our wedding favours I have cross-stitched a
wedding design with our names and the date of our wedding and then framed them.
They were quite easy to do and I have gotten great satisfaction from knowing it
makes them personal.

Raffia Hearts
Submitted by: Monica of Orlando
We decided to integrate the reception decorations and wedding favors. My fiancé
and I handmade all 397 of them. We used raffia hearts (for love), bows (for
tying the knot), and wreaths (for the circle of love). On each favor, we hot
glued 3 12" ribbon loops(1 each mauve, pink, white) and 6 12" streamers, 1 18"
strand of pearls and 5 mini-roses (burgundy, mauve, pink or white). They were
then tied with burgundy ribbon to the backs of the chairs by the caterer in a
random order. However, there was only one white favor per table. The person
sitting in the chair with the white favor also got the table centerpiece.

Golf Tees & Magnets
Submitted by: Anne N. of Mountain View, California
1) Personalized golf tees - I purchased them thru one of Mike's golf magazines. Just
had our name and date printed on them.
2) Magnets - The theme of our wedding
was baskets (had 'em everywhere, including
the centerpieces). Purchased miniature
handled baskets - filled them (hot glue
gun) with tiny silk and dried flowers in
wedding colors (off-white, rose, teal),
tied small ribbon bow around handle and
glued magnet to the back. Everything
was purchased at Michael's.
Both tees and magnets were presented in
small clear plastic bags (with little
hearts on it) and sealed by stapling
them shut (not elegant - but fast!) and
attaching a small fold over paper tag
pre printed with our names and date.

Decorated Sand Dollars
Submitted by: Jennifer G. of Thousand Oaks, California
I will be getting married in March of 1999 and have a limited budget.
My fiancé and I have decided to have a beach wedding and reception, so our theme
will be centered around the ocean. An inexpensive, yet very attractive favor
that we will distribute will be decorated sand dollars. I've made these before,
and they turned out nice. Take a sand dollar, and sprinkle it with a glitter,
preferably in the color of your theme. Cover the entire front of the sand
dollar, and then hot glue gun three or four small sea shells on the bottom. Glue
either a magnet to the back or a ribbon the the top for hanging. Attach a small
card with your names and wedding date to the top, and distribute at each place
setting. Each favor should only cost approximately $1.50.

Decorative Glasses
Submitted by: Ruth H. of Highland
My husband and I were desperate to have a unique wedding, so we
searched for unique wedding favors. We were trying to decide on glasses to use for the
champagne toast, when it struck me that the glasses could be our gift to our
guests. I lucked out and discovered that several Arby's restaurants still had
leftover Christmas promotional glasses. We were able to purchase them at cost, .73 cents each.
They were the perfect color, dark green with gold trim. Our wedding had an outdoor theme and we were also celebrating my grandparents' 50th wedding anniversary.
When my husband toasted and thanked everyone for coming, he also let them know that
the glasses were theirs to keep as our gift. You can find equal bargains
at outlet stores or at dollar stores. When you are buying large quantities, the stores
will usually give you a price break. We bought extras for people who came
alone so they could have a set. They were prized possessions by all who came.
And some even bought extras from us! We are reminded of our wedding every time we attend dinner at a friend or
loved one's home.

Glass Christmas Balls
Submitted by: Mother-of-the-Bride in Schenectady, New York
I am the mother-of-the-bride (this time)! Last November our son got
married and since the wedding was around holiday time, I wanted something in
keeping with the theme. I bought clear glass balls over the summer (much
cheaper) and took some lovely pictures of the couple and had them copied onto CLEAR
sticky back paper at Kinko's. I then printed the words, "God Bless Jim & Lori" on clear
acetate with the wedding date and a gold cross. I put the two papers together and cut
them out in circles.
I hung them with fishing line to hold the picture up in the ball so it would swing
freely and delicately. I placed the gold top back on and decorated the outside with
Victorian ribbons and roses. Now everyone can think of their wedding when they
trim the tree!
Suggestion: Roll picture around tweezers, then release inside ball, acetate
allows photo to "spring" back.
Now I am working on some very lovely favors for our daughter, Dina, and her
fiancé, Michael... am I blessed or what!!!!

Molded Candy
Submitted by: Allison of Lake Luzerne
I am planning a low budget reception so I decided to make the favors
myself. I got some of the colored candy chips that you melt into a mold. The
mold I used is that of a rose and the candy color was yellow. After the candy
had hardened, I wrapped it in cellophane and tied a bow around it with little
metal wedding rings and a poem attached to it.

Small Candles
Submitted by: J. H. of Kalamazoo, Michigan
We really had a low budget when it came to wedding favors. So, I bought
boxes of the little white candles that are placed on Christmas trees in Germany
(they are really small and they come in boxes of 12). I, then, bought some tulle
and wrapped it around the bottom and tied it off with some pears on a string. I,
then, inserted two little rosebuds (from the local crafts store) in the colors of
my wedding and tied in a little sheet of paper with our names and wedding date
written on it. Then, as we left the reception, everyone lit their candles and made
two long rows as we walked out of the reception hall and away into the night.
It made a beautiful, last scene of the wedding.

Hugs, Kisses and Fortunes
Submitted by: Brenda of Holland, Michigan
For our wedding, it was important for both my fiancé and myself to let
our guests know how special it was for us to have them spend the day with us. As
our favors, we bundled one Hershey hug and one Hershey kiss together in tulle
and had the following saying attached to each with ribbon.
"This has been a special day,
each one of you helped make it that way.
Please except these hugs and kisses
from Mr. (Groom) and his Mrs. (Bride)!
(Wedding Date)"
We also had fortune cookies at each place setting containing a fortune or
blessing on one side, and our names and wedding date on the other. (They really
worked as ice breakers at the tables and started many conversations!)

Colored Rocks
Submitted by: Lynn of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania
Two friends of mine who were paying for their own wedding got married
in October. They used colored rocks (they look decorative as used in candles)
that were their wedding colors and had them strewn across the table with Hershey
kisses. They also had a disposable camera at each table so that the
guests could take random pictures at the reception. When developed, it's fun
to see all the different pictures that the guests had taken of their friends and
family.

Small Box of Love
Submitted by: Kathy of Elk Grove, California
I have decided to give each person a box about the size
of a ring box, with a few little heart shaped sprinkles
inside (in case they do open them). The box will be wrapped in pretty
paper in my wedding colors (wine, gold and black) and ribbon, with a tag that states:
Here is a little box of love To hold when you are blue It reminds you everyday How much we think of you
You do not need to open it So leave the ribbon tied Just hold it in your hand & know It's filled with love inside
Thanks so much for adding To our special day Names and date

Molded Chocolate Lollipops
Submitted by: A. L. of Boca Raton, Florida
We are having a whole Disney theme at our January 1998 wedding!
Since I had to find a spot for Mickey and friends in practically all aspects
(from the cake topper to my jewelry to the centerpieces), I am going to make
chocolate lollipops using a Mickey mold. All it takes is a little bit of the
chocolate morsels that are easily melted down in the microwave, then poured into
the molds, tapped slightly to remove excess air bubbles, then add the lollipop
stick, put in the refrigerator for 15 minutes, and they are done! Then I will wrap
them in cellophane and tie our wedding white satin ribbons with our names and
the wedding date around the stem. They make cute Disney favors at a fraction
of the cost of other run-of-the-mill favors!

Decorated Wooden Bird Houses
Submitted by: P. P. of Colorado Springs
For our December wedding, my husband and I wanted to give our
guests a unique wedding favor. We made small,
wooden bird houses that could also be used as
Christmas tree ornaments. We painted them
burgundy with a forest-green roof and wrote on
the back of them our names and wedding date. We
attached place cards to them and placed the
favors alongside the guest book on a table for the arrival of our guests at the reception!

Framed Place Cards
Submitted by: P. P. of Colorado Springs
I combined table place cards and the wedding favor by buying
wallet size picture frames. I then made up table
setting cards, inserted them in the picture
frames and used them as the place cards. As an
added touch, we had wallet size pictures enclosed
with the thank you notes. Now our guests have a picture frame to put our wedding picture in!

Handmade Magnets
Submitted by: Karen of Beaufort, South Carolina
My sister is getting married on July 5th. We wanted wedding favors
that were inexpensive and different. We had some wooden popsicle sticks and several yards of
inexpensive lace. So we made magnets. We glued the lace around the popsicle sticks, put a magnet
on the back then glued a ribbon with their names and wedding date. It turned out real pretty.
