Bridal Shower Games

Bingo Version #4
Submitted by: Brenda of Troy
While working with children, the old standby game of bingo insired me. Shower bingo — 5 squares across and 5 squares down. Fill each square with a gift idea. At least two gifts on each card should be bogus. For example, bowling ball — this makes for conversation and more challenging game. When the gift is opened, a mint is placed on the card if gift and card spot match. Winner yells "bingo!" and gets a prize. Guests love it and so does the bride because there is less focus directly on her. Guests almost hate to see the last gift opened. Dress up the cards with borders or use already decorated computer paper. Enjoy!

Jail
Submitted by: Sarah of Peterborough, Canada
Have a spot in the room roped off and declared as "jail." People pay $1 to put someone in "jail" (usually the bride or groom). People have to pay $2 to get them out. This works well with mother-in-laws and new siblings.

Also, you can have goldfish races in pieces of plastic eavestroughing. BIG hit with the guys.

Bride of Frankenstein
Submitted by: Alison of Monterey, California, USA
Separate everyone into groups. Give them a bag of miscellaneous makeup. Have them chose one person in their group to put the makeup on. The group with the worst makeup job wins the prize.

Auction
Submitted by: Pam of Antigo, Wisconsin, USA
Before the shower, the host/hostess comes up with a list of characteristics and price of various gifts. For example, one penny for each child, .05 cents if you were married in the same month the bride-to-be will be, .10 cents if you are wearing glasses, etc. Place the wrapped gifts in a pile in the center of the room. As the host reads the characteristics, each guest collects money (provided and returned to the host) accordingly. At the end of the list, the auction begins. Guests use the money "earned" to buy the gifts from the pile. When everyone has received a gift, they may open it and see what they purchased.

Don't Cross Your Legs Version #2
Submitted by: Ylda of San Antonio, Texas, USA
This is a variation to the safty pin game or clothing pin game. The game is exactly the same, but instead of using pins use stickers that have love themes or wedding themes. Click here for Version #1 of this game.

Model
Submitted by: Mary of DeBruin
Pat and I gave a wedding shower for another coworker. We had Pat's daugher model our wedding dresses. As each dress was modeled, a series of numerical questions were asked. For example, "How old was the bride who wore this dress?", "How old was the groom?", "What year was the wedding?", "How many attendents were there?" The numbers were totaled and the person with the number closest to the correct number won a prize. It resulted in a lot of wedding conversation and was a lot of fun.

How Well Does She Know the Groom?
Submitted by: Heidi of Syracuse, New York, USA
My sister asked my fiancé about 25 different questions, like do you "Squeeze the toothpaste from the top middle or bottom?", "Do you salt and pepper your food before, during or after it is cooked?", "What side of the bed do you sleep on?", "If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be?", "What was your first puppy love's name?", etc. You get the picture. For every question I answered wrong I had to chew 1/2 a piece of Hubba Bubba® bubble gum. Like I said, there were about 25 questions and I got very few right. I suggest using only 1/2 of a piece of gum because by the time the game was over I could hardly talk I was spitting red as I talked.

Name that Guest
Submitted by: D.P. of Murrieta
As guests arrive, they are given nametags and a list. The list contains clues as to how each person knows the bride. The person who matches the most guests to their clues wins the game.

Wedding Rhyme Game
Submitted by: Donna D. of Martin, Tennessee, USA
5 points for something old,
5 points for something new,
10 points for something borrowed,
10 points for something blue.

With that ring you did wed,
give yourself 5 points for sharing your bed.
Count all your jewelry, necklaces, rings, and such,
They are worth 1 point each, how many do you have? Let’s see how much.
Now count those buttons, for each you get 3, and another 3 for showing your knee (wearing a skirt or dress).

Congrats to the ladies who have wedded bliss, give yourself 5 points for this.
He loves you so, he loves you not, take off 2 points if you haven’t tied the knot.
Roses are red and violets are blue, if you’re wearing flowers, then you get 2.

June is for brides, September is too,
if you were married or engaged on either month give yourself 2.

White is for brides, Red is for love,
give yourself 5 points if you remember your first love.

You came to this party to have a share some fun,
Have a good time and if a gift you brought none.
Oh no what shall we do,
Substract all your points and
shame on you.

This game is over, wasn't that fun?
Count up your points and let’s see who won!

Cookbook
Submitted by: Dawn M. of West Palm Beach, Florida, USA
For my daughter's bridal shower, I sent a request a few months prior to the shower to everyone that I knew would be invited requesting they send me a few of their favorite recipes and any "words of wisdom" they had for the bride and groom. The request was sent out on paper that had a food theme and told everyone it was a surprise. When I received the recipes, I compiled them into a cookbook (which I found out a party/card store that had dividers with measurements, tips, etc.) with the person's name and any extra in the title (Brian's Mom's Favorite Chili). I took the sayings and put them in the book. It really made a nice gift, and everyone there had input in it. Plus, it gave her a start toward cooking with her favorite recipes from home and his favorites from home.

"Designer" Dresses
Submitted by: Dawn M. of West Palm Beach, Florida, USA
This is great if you have a large room to play in. This is a variation of the wedding dress game. We only allotted 10 pieces of tape, 3 rolls of toilet paper and a fairly long piece of white streamer. They had roughly 15-20 minutes to make a wedding dress out of the toilet paper. Wedding music played to help put them in the mood. Then, we rolled out a long piece of carpet, the colour of my shower theme, and then played the wedding march. All the "models" were to walk down the aisle, the catch was, if the dress fell apart, you were disqualified. It's really funny when the dress that you figured would likely win, falls to pieces and looses to a really funny looking dress!

How Many?
Submitted by: Dawn of Brookston
Find or purchase a glass jar (like a mason jar). Decorate the jar with the wedding colors. Fill it up with the theme of the wedding such as ribbon, candle, candy, plastic rings, etc. Make sure you know how many items are in the jar before you seal it up. Pass the jar around and have each guest guess how many items are in it. Have the guest write the number on a sheet of paper. Whoever guesses the nearest to the acual count will win.

Q & A for the Bride
Submitted by: Mary of Kapaa, Hawaii, USA
We didn't know much about the bride-to-be, but we did know a lot about my nephew, who was to be her husband. So, we created some questions that the bride-to-be had to answer about her new husband. For each wrong answer that she gave, we had her and her new mother-in-law perform a dance for us. For example, we placed a piece of fabric around their foreheads, and had them perform "Kung Fu Fighting". We made them kick fake brick and other funny things. But the object of the game is to make sure the bride answer every question wrong. Watching the entertainment that was given by them was so enjoyable and it also brought a new mother in-law and daughter in-law closer together.

Blue Light Special
Submitted by: Mary of Kapaa, Hawaii, USA
We threw a bridal shower for my nephew's new bride. Both of them work for K-mart. We didn't know how to give out the centerpieces. Since the "Blue Light" special came back to K-mart, we decided to hand out the centerpieces through that. We covered a rotating light with blue cellophane and every fifteen minutes we had a siren that went off and the women had to stand and chant, "Blue Light, Blue Light, Blue Light!" It was such a neat way of keeping the ball rolling and the women looked forward to hearing that siren go off!

Find The Money For the Honeymoon
Submitted by: Diane W. of Hartselle, Alabama, USA
My husband and I have given a few "Find The Money For the Honeymoon" parties. We invite friends and ask them to bring a monetary gift in a card or envelope and signed by them. They give the money to the hosts ahead of time, and the host hides the money in various places throughout the house. (I never place in drawers or closets, so you don't have to worry about people going through your things.) Some places we hid the envelopes were the washing machine, mailbox, underneath the toilet seat, and in a tornado shelter. The bride and groom are given clues as to where the money might be and they have to "Find the Money". Hosts can help if they get stuck and can't figure it out. All the money is opened privately by them while the guests are eating dessert, and they (bride and groom) tell everyone the total amount of money they received. The money is for them to use as "splurge money" on their honeymoon.

Bride Scramble and Word Search
Submitted by: Brenda R. of Brooklyn, New York, USA
This is a fun and quick shower game. On a piece of paper, scramble 10 words that have to do with marriage, in general, or the bridal couple. Also, on the paper you can have a small word search puzzle. Distribute pencils to the guests. The first guest to finish correctly wins a prize. It's a great game to keep them thinking.

Name that Famous Couple
Submitted by: Sonia R. of Mission Viejo, California, USA
To encourage guests to socialize, have premade tags with famous couples written on them. As guests arrive, place a sticker on each individual's back. They must then ask other guests yes or no questions to determine who their famous couple is.

Household Cleaner Letter: Version 3
Submitted by: Teri S. of New York, New York, USA
On this DAWN of a new ERA for the both of you, we’d like to offer some words of wisdom.

There are 409 ways to begin a fight and
only one way to RESOLVE it –
(Insert Bride's Name) is always right.

Although (Insert Groom's Name) isn’t always MR. CLEAN and he may sometimes
SHOUT, if you WISK him away for a little SNUGGLE we’re
sure ALL will be FANTASTIC again.

If you both PLEDGE to send out an
SOS in times of strife, problems
will always VANISH.

Our wish for you is best expressed in this
OLD ENGLISH saying,

May all ye FUTURE days be VIVID with JOY, may ye hearts soar like a COMET
and may ye face each day with CHEER!

Famous Couple, Finish the Sentence, and "Scattegories"
Submitted by: Clee of Ontario
Just finished having a bridal shower last night. We played three games. One was the "Famous Couple Game." I had 14 famous couples in mind and gave 2 or three clues for them. Such as:

1. She was a loving pampered cocker spaniel, he was a roguish mutt from across the tracks. _______

- the guests had to write the answer - of course the answer is Lady and The Tramp.

We also did Finish the Sentence. - Famous quotes started then the guests finish the quote.

The 3rd game we played after the food and gift opening and some guest had left. It is just like the game SCATTERGORIES. I had the game so I used the die that game with the game that had letters of the alphabet on it. I guess the host could write the alphabet out on small squares of paper instead. Anyway, think of wedding stuff such as:

1. What the bride could wear
2. Where the bride and groom might go for a honeymoon________
3. Colour of a bridesmaid's dress____
4. Flower__________________
5. Things in a hotel room____

Depending on how many rounds you would like, guests take turns rolling the die or picking a letter from a hat. The letter that they pick is the letter that their answers must start with for everything. Guests get a point for each correct answer but no point if another guest has the same answer. Set a time limit. We had a great time with this game.

Toilet Paper Tell
Pass a roll of toilet paper around the room and tell each person to take as much as they want. When finished, have each guest count the number of squares in their strand of toilet paper. For each square, the guest has to offer marriage advice to the bride.

Shower Cap
Submitted by: Tanya of Corpus Christi, Texas, USA
This is literally a shower game. The rules are simple: if you say the bride's name you have to wear a shower cap. The next person to say her name has to wear the lovely shower cap! It makes a fun picture.

What you will say on your wedding night
Submitted by: Devona H. of Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
When everyone has arrived at the shower, have each person stand up straight and then bend over and draw their hand on a piece of paper. While they are bending over, you will ask each person "How do you feel?, Are you OK? Tell me have you done this in a while?" While the guest is responding to your questions, you are writing down everything they're saying. For example, "oohh I haven't done this in a while" or "Oh, I can't do that." Whatever they are saying. At the end of the shower, let the guest know this is what the bride will say to the groom on their wedding night together and repeat their name. For instance, "Jane will say to John on their wedding night, 'Ooh, I haven't done this in a while' or 'Oh, I can't do that, it hurts to bend.' THIS IS A GREAT ICEBREAKER.

Pass the Gift
Submitted by: Hillary S. of Bell Buckle, Tennessee, USA
Have a gift wrapped and hand it to the bride. Have the hostess ask questions and whoever the question pertains to pass the gift to her. For example, 'Who was the first guest to arrive?', 'Who has the most buttons on?', 'Who has on the longest earrings?', 'Who is the oldest?', 'Who is the youngest?', 'Who has the most kids?', 'Who was the last guest to arrive?' Then the last one holding the gift gets the prize.

Potluck
Submitted by: Hillary S. of Bell Buckle, Tennessee, USA
When guests arrive, have a piece of paper on a table labeled 1 through 25. Have each guest sign their name by a number in the order in which they arrive. Have each of the numbers on a little piece of folded paper, then place the paper in a pot. At the end of the shower, have the bride pick out a number. Then find out who's name it is by that number on the paper and they when a prize. (ex: 1) Jane Doe, 2) Susie Q)

Ugly Bridesmaid Dresses
Submitted by: Mo of Merchantville
This is more fun for the guests than it is for the participants. Unfortunately, most of the girls in the wedding party have been bridesmaids, but never the bride. At many showers, we have noticed that we never knew exactly who was in the wedding. Therefore, at the last shower, in which we were a part of, we the bridesmaids decided to wear the most hideous gowns we could find or owned. Some of us picked them up at a thrift store while others found them in the back of the closet. It was obvious who was in the wedding party. We ALL got a big laugh out of it and was also a way to appreciate the tasteful dress our "bride" chose for us and had some fun "dressing up".

N&N and Charades
Submitted by: Brenda E. of Riesel, Texas, USA
A game of Charades and Naughty or Nice.

N&N= Write the word "Naughty" on several pieces of paper and "Nice" on several other pieces. Tear them out (I do mine on the computer), put all torn papers in a hat and pass it around. Whoever picks a "Naughty" paper has to tell a naughty sexy story. If they get a "Nice" paper, the guest has to tell a nice sexy story.

Charades = Make up several pieces of paper with different shower, wedding and honeymoon related topics. Then, split up the guests into groups of two and pull "scenes" from a hat. TOTALLY COOL!

Birthday Month
Submitted by: Patti B. of Spring Lake, Michigan, USA
When we sent out the invitations for this shower, we included a note telling each of the guests to choose their gifts according to their own birthday month. When it came time to open the gifts, we began with January's gifts, then on to February's, etc. There were some GREAT ideas for each of the months, and the bride enjoyed them very much!! Here are a few examples: A person whose birthday was in April gave a luxury shower-head and a set of towels to the bride ("April showers..."). Another clever guest gave a wall clock - her birthday was October...when the Daylight Savings Time change happens!! Of course, February and December birthdays have Valentine's and Christmas to inspire them, but March and September required lots of creative thinking. It was a lovely shower, and the gifts were as unique as the guests!!!

Dress the Bride and Groom
Submitted by: Sandy of Birdsboro, Pennsylvania, USA
Make sure the groom-to-be (GTB) drops off the bride-to-be (BTB). This is also a great ice-breaker for those showers where guests don't know one another well. Plan in advance by gathering cloth material (lace, satin, brocade) - anything off the clearance table that could be used to dress the bride and groom, poster board, flowers, and make-up. Get two large bags and divide up the supplies - 1 bag for bride and the other for the groom. Put a roll of wide tape, scissors and a stapler in each bag. Divide guests into 2 teams by going round the room and assigning titles of "bride" or "groom". The "brides" decorate the BTB and the "grooms" decorate the GTB. The team that does the best job wins a prize. When I played this game the first time the "bride" team dressed up the bride so well she could have worn the dress on her wedding day!

Q and A
Submitted by: Jennifer of Avon
This is fun for bridal (or baby) shower. Pass out index cards to each guest. Have them write a question that may arise for the new bride. Then, collect and shuffle all the cards. Pass them out again, and without looking at the front, have them write the answer to the question they wrote originally. The bride then reads the questions and sometimes strange yet humorous answer! You can get crazy things like "Q. What should you do when you get in a fight with your new husband? A. Use a lot of detergent and scrub like crazy!".
