Household Cleaner Letter: Version 1
Submitted by: Beth of Boston, Massachusetts
At my cousin's shower
we read a "letter" that we had composed
especially for the occasion. It started out...
"Dear Bonnie,
Soon you will marry Rich, a SUAVE and
CHARMIN' guy..."
Our letter offered valuable advice as well... "Give lots of
HUGGIES and KISSES... to keep your HUNGRYJACK
EVERYREADY!" Needless to say that the
bridesmaid played Vanna White and held up the
products that we mentioned in the letter. It was
fun both to compose the letter as well as present
it to her! Everyone got a big kick out of it...
Dear "bride's name",
You are entering a new ERA. There will
come a THYME in your marriage when you
find "Groom's name" is not
always MR.CLEAN, but don't send out the S.O.S.
because he might VANISH. "Groom's
name" will always bring you CHEER
and you will find him to be your white
DOVE. When you are together you will
find JOY, so remember your PLEDGE and
give him your ALL. To "bride's
name" and "Groom's name"
the Best of Luck & Good Fortune in
the years to come. And may "Groom's name"
always be your HONEY.

Household Cleaner Letter: Version 2
Submitted by: J. Y. of New York
I'd like to give this idea as a shower game. It's
a letter utilizing mostly cleaning products and health products.
This is to be presented by the bridal party to
the bride in front of guests:
Dear "bride's name",
It is only fair that we let
(Bride's name) in on a little
SECRET. (Groom's name) may be
FANTASTIC but wait until (Bride's name)
finds out that he is not MR. CLEAN.
He'll expect her to be a DYNAMO in
the kitchen and he thinks all women
should MOP & GLOW. At night he'll
wake you up at DAWN to SNUGGLE up close.
We all AGREE that (Bride's name) and
(Groom's name) will have a very happy
LIFE together. Our wish for you is
that your home be filled with JOY and
you remain as happy as ever in the FUTURE.
Really kinda cute. What the bridal party members can do is have each attendant (that is if there is
more than one) read a line and pass each product to the bride as she names the product.

Striptease
Submitted by: C. M. of Halifax, Nova Scotia
While I was reading
these I remembered a clever striptease act. It
was clever because the bride did not want to have
a real stripper at her shower/stagette. So, some
of the girls cut out a cardboard silhouette of a
man and dressed him in clothes. During the shower
each guest had to answer intimate questions about
the bride and Groom. Each time an answer was
correct a piece of clothing was taken off the
"stripper". The funniest event was when
the last piece of clothing was removed only a fig
leaf was there. It took her 1 hour until the
temptation finally got to her to look under the
leaf. But underneath was only a message for the
bride, "Not on your life".

What ya' cookin'?
Submitted by: T. Cooper
This isn't really a
game, but it is funny. The hostess sets out a
bunch of ingredients and baking materials on a
table: flour, sugar, bowls, cake pan, etc. The
bride is to then cook her own wedding cake
without a recipe! Someone writes down what she
puts in the cake, and then it is actually baked
during the shower and taste tested.

Giveaway
Submitted by: K. B. of Boston, Massachusetts
This idea was used at
my shower given by my sisters and I've seen it at
many other showers since. Before the shower, they
went out and bought several items. Lotions, small
frames, small perfumes, note paper etc. While I
was opening gifts, they set a timer. Each time
the timer rang, whose ever gift I was opening won
one of the small wrapped items. This was a good
game for a shower attended by women of all ages.

Toilet Paper Veil
Submitted by: K. O. of Kokomo, Indiana
Similar to the
wedding dress game, two of my closest friends
threw me a shower and had the guests create a
wedding veil. Each guest was given 3 sheets of
ordinary white tissue paper and given 5 minutes
to create a veil for me. After the 5 minutes were
up, the guests had to model their veil and I was
to choose my favorite. Needless to say, there
were some quite outrageous veils and a whole lot
of laughs! This was by far my favorite game of
the day -- and I even wore it during the
rehearsal!!

Memory
Submitted by: L. K. of Ames, Indianapolis
At my first shower,
my aunt and cousin played a game for both my
sister and I (we were also having a baby shower
for her), but it is great for just a bridal
shower. My cousin came out in a robe with a
variety of things attached to the robe, i.e.
napkin holders, place mats, hot pads, tongs... We
had 1 1/2 minutes to look at what she was
wearing, and then she left the room. We then all
had to try to remember what she had on and write
it down. Whoever had the most correct answers won
a small prize, and all of the items she was
wearing went to the bride as part of her gift.

Thank You Notes
Submitted by: J. M. of Puyallup, Washington
Here is a game or
door prize that is kind of neat and is handy for
the bride. Either you buy or have the bride buy
the thank you notes prior to the shower and then
take the envelopes out and after everyone has
been introduced and before the action starts have
all guests address the envelope to themselves and
put them into a container, have the bride draw
one and then that is the door prize person. It
helps the bride when it is time to send the thank
you notes!

Dress Up
Submitted by: Joleen of Kalispell, Montana
I had a shower for my
best friend which was, also, attended by her mother. We went to a
second hand store and bought some outrageous
dresses, bras, shoes, hats, necklaces, purses,
and a ring. We split up into teams, one for the
bride and one for the mother-of-the-bride (it
worked out well, we had an equal number of guests
who were approximately the same age as the bride
and mother-of-the-bride). The team dresses the
bride and the mother up for the wedding. First
team done wins. We were nervous about how this
would turn out, but we had an absolute blast and
got some GREAT pictures. It is still a joke today
about how the mother-of-the-bride should have
worn the hot pink dress for the actual wedding.

Wedding Quilt
Submitted by: M. H. of Eureka
A rather fun and
memorable craft to do at your shower is a wedding
quilt. I had each guest design one square
reflecting the theme of love at the wedding
shower using ribbon, fabric glue, buttons etc.
When each person finished I had them sign the
square. Later, before the wedding, I made the
squares into a quilt using the wedding colors in
the bordering fabric. I presented the quilt to
the couple on their wedding day as a gift from
all who attended the shower. The quilt does not
have to be a piece of art if you are not a
seamstress, I certainly was not! This is a gift
the bride is going to have forever.

Guest Bingo
Submitted by: A. L. of Burgessville
Have bingo cards
printed out with a guest's name in each box.
(Every card is different, of course). Go around
the room, and each person may pick one name on
their card. They must say something about that
person, and then everyone can mark that name off
on their card. The first 3 people to get BINGO win!

Scrapbook
Submitted by: A. A. of Anchorage, Alaska
One of the games I
put together was the creation of a scrapbook for
the bride. We had lots of magazines to cut pictures out of
and each group of women was given a theme.
For example, pictures were cut out that dealt with the home or family. They used the magazines to
cut out pictures or words that showed what they
thought the bride's future would look like. It's
great fun, especially if the bride is a wild
card, then her "future" becomes a bit
outrageous!!

How Well Do You Know the Bride?
Submitted by: A. S. of Kingsport, Tennessee
Give each guest a
note pad-size paper and pen. Have questions ready
to ask such as, how old is the bride, her
mother's name, what college/university/high
school did she attend, her favorite soft drink,
the names of her brothers/sisters, her wedding
date, the colors of her wedding, her fiance
parents names, what size shoe, her favorite
color, favorite TV show/soap, etc. The guest that
answers the most correct wins a prize. You will
be amazed what people do or do not know. It will
start great conversations.

Advice Book
Submitted by: P. D. of San Jose, California
Another nice memento
to start at a shower is an "advice book"...what
can be used is a really nice blank journal. Guests pass
it around and give their best 'love and marriage'
advice. If the journal is big enough, it can also
double as the guest book at the wedding--because
it is a journal, wedding guests can also leave a
message. After the wedding it can also be used as
the 'gift list' book. This is what we did for my
wedding and it was nice to have ONE book that had
everything in it.

Famous Wives
Submitted by: P. D. of San Jose, California
On small pieces of
paper you write the names of famous/fun wives:
Wilma Flintstone, June Cleaver, Demi Moore, etc.
Each guest is given this name tag to wear
throughout the shower. On the back of each name
tag is a number...towards the end of the shower
everyone is instructed to turn over the name
badge and display the number. Each guest then
tries to remember who everyone was. It's fun and
gets people to mingle more. Plus, it's funny to
see the reactions when people pull the name tag
thinking they 'are' that name for the rest of the party.
