A Guide to Thank You Notes
[ Wedding Invitation/Stationery Index ]
- Contrary to popular belief, you do not have a year to send thank you notes.
Thank you notes must be sent within three months of the wedding.
- Thank you notes must be handwritten and sent immediately for those gifts that were
sent via mail/delivery service even if you receive them prior to your wedding
date. This will let the sender know that their gift arrived safely.
- The notes should be handwritten and should refer to the present received. If
you use a pre-printed card, add a handwritten note of thanks.
- Thank you notes are no longer the domain of the bride. The groom is expected
to share in the responsibility of writing them.
- Each note should be written by only one person and signed by only one
person, but should mention the thanks of the other.
- Send thank you notes not only to those that sent gifts, but also to family,
friends, and vendors that contributed their time, expertise, and effort in
planning and organizing your wedding.
Example:
Dear Mr. and Mrs. Smith (or, if family, Aunt Rose and Uncle Tim),
Steven and I absolutely love the cappuccino maker you so generously gave
us! We can't wait to start making cups and cups of cappuccino and to start drinking them
by the fireplace of our new house while we read the Sunday paper.
It was very thoughtful of you and we are very grateful.
With love from both of us,
Cheryl
