Q:    Do you have reception dresses that are to be worn after the ceremony and during the reception?
A:    We are much more geared towards the bridal dress than we are towards a reception dress but we do have a wide variety of "fancy dresses." We also don't have a "second wedding" caterer. That would probably be the next evolution in a bridal store, how to outfit the bride for their second wedding.

Q:    Tell us a little bit about the expertise of Kleinfeld's associates.
A:    There are probably two things that characterize our associates. First of all, many of them are veterans. When you have a thousand dresses to choose from, clearly a bride is not going to try on a thousand dresses. She doesn't have the time and, I suspect, none of us have the patience. So the good bridal consultant can extract something from the information she asks ahead of time, look at some of the pictures from a magazine or listen to conversations with the bride and the bride's mother and get a very good sense of the dress they are looking for. Since our consultant knows the stock intimately, she knows which dresses would satisfy the bride's needs.

Our associates on the floor know that this is the most important day in a bride's life and there is a high level of emotion that surrounds the decisions, the event, and the relationships within the family. Sometimes it gets a little out of hand, and sometimes it gets a little emotional. Our associates are very good in helping everyone through those kinds of issues.

When a bride gets closer to the selection of her dress which she is interested in, our fitters do the measurements and also go through any ideas for change that the bride might consider. They are then able to go through the process by saying "No, this isn't possible and here's why" or "But this is possible and it will give the same kind of effect." The fitter knows more about the fabric and the seams of individual gowns because she's not only fit those gowns but she's also sewn those gowns.

She then brings the third piece of expertise to the table which is "How is this gown going to fit for you and for your particular needs?" Not all brides are perfect; therefore we have to make sure we know how to get the dress so that the bride looks perfect. There is a difference between what looks right on a size 6 or an 8 and what looks appropriate on a larger bride, maybe 18 or 20. And, in fact, our people know which dresses would look better for larger-sized brides and so forth and we can help overcome those issues by bringing those out. And we have for a number of years also carried some sample sizes of particularly good dresses for larger brides. We carry some larger sample sizes so that the fitting process could go smoothly.
