Forbes Magazine's "Best of the Web" in wedding planning!

In 1994, I was a computer programmer by trade and a bride-to-be by fate. I naturally turned to the world wide web for advice about planning a perfect wedding. Unfortunately, I didn't find very much back then (eons ago in Internet terms). I found a few sites created by couples looking to announce their engagement, explain how they met and flash a few pictures. I also found another site explaining the dance steps to that new sensation called the Cheryl and Florante Macarena and how it would be a big hit at the reception. Most of the large wedding sites now found on the internet simply didn't exist yet. So, instead, we relied on the newsgroups. They were extremely useful -- they helped us pick our honeymoon location (the Isle of Capri, off the Amalfi Coast in Italy), answered our etiquette questions (yes, it would be in bad taste to include our bridal registry info with the wedding invitations), and even helped us pick our wedding song ("At Last" by Etta James).

When we returned from our honeymoon, we were still glowing from the fun and excitement we had at our wedding. So much so that my husband and I decided to put up our own "roadstand" on the information superhighway that dealt with weddings. We imagined a site at which we, and others, could share experiences, dispense advice and offer tips to newly-engaged couples. By creating a highly-interactive and user-friendly platform, the success of the magazine would rest greatly on the genuine and first-hand experiences of all those who contributed. When it came time to pick a name, my husband exclaimed, "Why not Bliss!?" Bliss. Hmmmm. The state at which every couple works hard to achieve in their marriage. A feeling of total happiness and harmony. A name that described to a "T" the exact feeling we wanted the magazine to exude to our readers! And with that, Bliss!™ Weddings, was born! Since then, individuals from all over the world have visited us actively looking for unique, modern, creative, and fun ideas for creating their perfect wedding. They cannot, however, find the dance steps to the Macarena on our site. And I think that's a good thing.

Engaged couples more than ever realize that their wedding day is not only a rite of passage but also a public expression of their personality as a couple. In this regard, and with newfound freedom over the years, couples are now picking and choosing the traditions with which they will abide; thus, adding to each individual wedding a sense of style unique to the couple getting married. For example, at our wedding, my husband's best man was his sister, his sole sibling. It was important for him to have her standing by his side, even though she didn't fit the traditional concept of what a best man should be -- namely, a man. But she did fulfill the traditional duties handsomely, she stood by his side for support. And I believe that choice said something about us.

Is the tradition of the garter toss going away (although, for some this idea would be a celebration in itself)? No. Some couples like it and some do not. The point is - the modern engaged couple is no longer tied to tradition of what is "acceptable" and what is not. Garter toss or none, Macarena or none - Bliss!™ Weddings will be there to assist you down the entire length of that "tulle-lined" road. Bliss! is how we feel at the magazine... how we've felt since the day we got married...and how we hope you'll feel during your preparations, your wedding day, and the rest of your married life.

Congratulations and much love and happiness for the many years to come in wedded bliss!
